Being the first in your family to attend college can feel like wading into uncharted waters. First-generation college students often struggle with financial concerns, a lack of guidance, and feelings of isolation, which set them apart from their peers who may have additional resources.

At Valor Injury Law, we recognize the challenges faced by first-gen students. We hope to offer a helping hand with the First Steps Scholarship, providing an award of $2,500 once per semester to students in need who are committed to their studies. Applications for the Spring 2027 semester are open until February 17, 2027.

Application Requirements

All students interested in submitting an application to the First Steps Scholarship must record a video response to the following prompt:

Essay Prompt

Describe how your background as a first-generation college student has impacted your college experience. Then, discuss your career goals post-graduation.

Your video submission should be approximately 2 to 3 minutes in length, attached as a URL (YouTube, Google Drive, etc.).

Along with your video, we ask that you attach proof of enrollment (such as an acceptance letter or transcript), your recorded GPA, and your household income.

Evaluation of Submissions

Our scholarship judges will evaluate your submission based on how well it fits the following criteria:

  • Do you illustrate a clear link between your college experience and your first-generation background?
  • Do you clearly explain what you intend to do after graduation?
  • Is your video response authentic and original?

Award Amount

$2500 will be awarded to one student per semester

Scholarship Deadline

The deadline to apply for this scholarship is 02/17/2027

Before You Apply

The First Steps Scholarship is open to students who meet all of the requirements below:

  • Your parents did not attend any form of higher education.
  • You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • You must have a household income of $150,000 or less.
  • You must be enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate or graduate program within the United States for the Spring 2027 semester.
  • You must be a citizen of the United States.
